Ear piercings were, and still are, popular amongst men – Although when we think of ear piercings, we probably tend to first picture women with an earring in either ear, in reality, ear piercings were just as popular amongst men as they were amongst women. A number of very famous and very influential men in the world famously wore decorative and elaborate earrings in their ears, with some of these men including: William Shakespeare, Julius Caesar, and Sir Francis Drake, to name but a few. Although nowadays you’re likely to see Z-list reality stars with over-sized sparkly studs in their ears, there are still a number of very influential men in our world who have their ears pierced.

Lip piercings are popular in Africa – In Africa, there are a number of locations in which African citizens have, what you would probably consider a very extreme form of lip piercing, In these parts of Africa, the individual in question actually has a very small disc inserted directly into their lower lip when they are just children. As they grow and develop, the disc is changed every so often, becoming bigger and bigger with each replacement. Eventually, these lip piercing discs can be as large as 15 centimeters in diameter, which is pretty astonishing and very impressive to look at.
