The Basics

For those of you who may born in the recent years, it’s quite possible you may not really be too familiar with this tattoo icon. Well, we’re gonna share with you some of the basics of this icon, his tattoo and more. If you are familiar with the Black Sabbath lead vocalist, then you’re gonna love the refresher and maybe even learn a few things that have slipped your memory since his last high profile public appearance on MTV’s The Osbournes and 13 (the album- 2013).

Born December 3rd, 1948 with the given birth name of John Michael Osbourne, “Ozzy” rose to fame thanks to his musical talents and outrages personality in the early part of the 70’s. As the lead singer for the grunge heavy metal band Black Sabbath, Ozzy’s career took the high seat for his music, then acting and as a beloved TV personality and beyond.

From Fired to Hired

Although his career with Black Sabbath is what initially put him on the map of his fame, later to explode even further, he was fired by his first band mates. Nonetheless, he continued to tap into his gifts as musician and made released 11 albums on his own following his falling out with Black Sabbath. He continued his fame and career with his solo musical career, touring and winning fans over with his vocal talents and dark mysterious ways.

As a MTV Global Icon winner, it’s no wonder that Ozzy so notorious respected for his dedication and drive to creating heavy metal hard hitters and influencing an entire generation of fans and beyond. And don’t forget the 90’s alternative/grunge/rock era hit Ozzfest, first held in Phoenix, Arizona. Ozzfest was one of the most anticipated music festivals for heavy metal fans everywhere, along with emerging metal musicians.

The Dark Part : Ozzy’s Tattoos

Part of the intrigue that pulls in so many fans is not just his music; much like any good venue, the ambiance is what sets the tone for all other efforts. Ozzy’s long, unkempt dark hair, the signature round colored sunglasses and tattoos is all of part of the empire that is Ozzy.

One of the most noted tattoos that belong to Ozzy is a traditional Chinese dragon head on his right chest. The large, colorful tattoo of the blue dragon is covered in flames. Traditionally, the dragon is symbol of power, luck and success and strong will to live, all of which Ozzy certainly demonstrates through his career.

The second most notable tattoo is one that is on his left hands. The letters of his name is written on his knuckles. His knuckle tattoo, although not nearly as fancy and in depth as some of the style of hand and knuckle tattoos that being practiced in our modern day, his is certainly the iconic “knuckle tattoo’ that inspired the modern versions for so many.

The third most notable tattoo on Ozzy is the famous smiley faces that live on his knees, on both sides. The most famous picture showing the smilies going to good use might just be one of him sitting on the toilet, knees bent, smiley faces out with a newspaper.

Then back to his hand. This time, the palm of his left hand, which reads “Thanks”. Talk to the hand, literally, and with this man you’ll get gratitude.

Ozzy rocks several traditional sailor Jerry-esque tattoos as well: one of a red rose on his right arm with his second wife’s name : Sharon. He also has a dagger on his right forearm. Traditionally, there are several meanings to the dagger ranging from military references, to death and betrayal. He also has a skull tattoo on his chest, opposite the Chinese dragon. No true heavy metal vocalist is complete without one of these dark symbols, which can actually represent life and the acceptance of death, rather than death alone. Flames sleeve his arms as well, littered with dragons, flames and claws.

The last but not least is a tattoo of a gargoyle holding the head of a Elvira-esque head on his left upper arm. This one certainly is mysterious and if we ever get to meet him in person, we’d really love to know what inspired this tattoo and what it means to him.[/vc_column_text][vc_masonry_media_grid initial_loading_animation=”fadeIn” grid_id=”vc_gid:1477443607905-57eb6460-973f-8″ include=”4937,4938,4939,4940,4941,4936″][vc_empty_space][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_empty_space][vc_separator color=”blue”][vc_custom_heading text=”Follow us for Piercing Inspiration” font_container=”tag:h3|text_align:center|color:%231e73be”][vc_column_text][instagram-feed][/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
