Whether you’re an innie or an outie, got a slim figure or a muffin top, belly rings are a stylish way to add much-needed bling to your mid-section. Belly rings are one of the most popular forms of piercings because of their stylishness and their non-intrusiveness. However, there are some hurtles to get over when first wearing one, as with any piercing. If you are experimenting with belly rings for the first time, here are some things you can expect from your new accessory.

#1. The process

The obvious thing is, of course, the process of the actual piercing. Don’t worry, it’s actually not as painful as it may appear. Yes, your bellybutton is one of your more sensitive spots when it comes to getting pierced with a steel needle, which makes this the most harrowing part of the process, but that’s about it. And, it’ll be over as quickly as it started, so there’s no problem. As long as you’re going with a licensed shop with sterilized equipment and facilities that remain immaculately clean at all times, you should be fine.

As with any piercing, after getting the piercing, there’s the healing process, where your skin has to heal back around the piercing. The important thing to remember is that you have to keep it clean. Always wash your hands before touching it, dirty hands are a fast track to an infected wound. Don’t fiddle with it too much. It can feel uncomfortable at times, so there’s a temptation to want to mess with it. However, this can cause serious irritation later down the road, so try to resist the urge. Be sure to wash the piercing twice a day with liquid soap. Finally, avoid swimming or taking a bath in a bathtub until you’ve been completely healed.

#3. Any physical limitations?

Nothing much, beyond the irritation and no longer being able to submerge yourself in water until the piercing has healed. And even then, if you talk to your piercer, they can tell you what the proper protections are for covering up your piercing when you go swimming. In terms of the irritation, it can take up to twelve months for the wound to completely heal. It’s not just a matter of healing a wound, it’s healing around anew, foreign entity embedded in the skin.

A belly ring is one of the easier piercings to deal with, when compared to its peers. If you want more information, talk to a piercer at Body Jewelry, and see if a belly ring would look great on you.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text][/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
