First, Let’s Get Comfortable with the “P” Word

Just a quick warning… it’s gonna get graphic in here, so for those of you that are faint of heart, I suggest bracing yourself to see, hear and learn about gentleman parts and their piercings… Don’t say I didn’t warn ya…

Male genital piercings don’t get nearly as much coverage as it should…maybe that’s because of the body part it is attached to or the modern day taboo about the word “penis” that get everyone in the whole room get uncomfortable…

(repeat after me)

Penis.

Penis.

Penis.

Feeling more comfortable? It is a body part that has been so oversexualized by media and general culture that we often forget that it is just as much as pierceable body part much like the tongue, the ears, the belly button, etc. There is a beautiful art to male genital piercings that is anatomically so intriguing and exciting yet understudied and hidden from the general knowledge pool, even among the novice piercing crowd. Prince Albert has more friends than most know of…

Tonight, we are going to expose every part, not just the tip of the male genital piercing world.

Double A’s

The two big A’s in the male piercing genre are the ampallang and the apadravya. Both are popular male genital piercing that are commonly done to the tip or the glans. The ampallang is pierced through the penis from side to side (horizontally) and the apadravya is pierced up and down on the tip, or vertically. These two A’s of male genital piercings are thought to have originated from the indigenous tribes of Borneo and Philippines, among others.

Both of these piercings can be done on the shaft of the penis and other variations include whether these piercings run through, under or above the urethra. These piercings are most notorious for being painful and slow to heal, so if you come across one of these, know that the owner had to really commit to the experience and the healing process, which can take up to a full year. The double A’s of male genital piercings are also noted to be a bit messy; you can expect more than a drop of blood when it comes to piercing these highly vascular areas of the body.

The two A’s can also be possessed by the same person, forming a set of piercings commonly referred to as the “magical cross”…and rightfully so…

And gentlemen, before you cringe at the idea of needle close to your royal jewels, consider this: the apadravya is rumored to the most appreciated piercing by the ladies, if you get my drift.

The Double A’s and a set of dydoes.

D is for …..

Dydoe, of course! This piercing is done on the raised outer edges of the glans. This piercing is done in singles and sets, commonly in pairs, although it can be done all around the circumference of the penis in intervals, known as the “King’s Crown”. The dydoe is one of the piercings that truly add a visual intrigue and has been rumored to help the gents that may have lost some level of sensitivity or sensation due to injury or adult circumcision.

The dydoe tends to heal faster that the 2 A’s above, however it is not recommended for gents that have their foreskin intact as this area needs plenty of breathing room free from constriction to heal properly. Also, depending on the how shallow or deep the raise part of the glans is, this may piercing may or may not be done. The pain factor on this piercing is said to be close to a 10, so brace yourself for this one.

You saw right…a triple dydoe piercing

Ha…Ha…Hafada

Well, there’s nothing funny about this piercing but we couldn’t help ourselves with that one…

The hafada piercing is more common and considered to be one of the less anatomically challenging genital piercings since it is performed on the skin of the scrotum. The hafada can technically be anywhere on the scrotum permitting enough skin availability and is commonly seen in sets of piercings from pairs to entire sets to form a “ladder” on the scrotum. The hafada piercing is done on the surface of the skin and since the scrotum area lends for some extra skin most of the time, the life of this piercing is well beyond typical surface skin piercings.

Due to the nature of the piercing, this is considered to be less painful and bleed a lot less than its counterparts above. The pain factor is also lower than the others and it also offers versatility in the type of body jewelry that can be worn, such as a captive bead ring, a curved barbell and more.

Not that Lorem Ipsum

The lorem piercing is a close relative of the hafada piercing, just placed slightly north at the base of the penis. It is usually performed to run side to side (horizontally) at the junction where the penis meets the scrotum.

Much like its close cousin, the hafada, this piercing lends itself to numerous jewelry types and is a great piercing for beginners that wish to get into genital piercings. The chances of infection and complications lessen as no internal structure of the penis and surrounding areas are affected during the piercing process.
